The Be A Good Dog University Introductory Therapy Course is designed to walk potential dog/handler teams through the AKC Canine Good Citizen's Test which is required by Therapy Dog International. In addition to C.G.C. training, students learn the fundamentals of therapy dog training.
It is a goal of Be A Good Dog University to provide adequate education, reliable information and support for students who are involved in our volunteer animal assisted activities. These activities include visits to hospitals, special needs centers, schools and nursing homes. Our objective is to form a network of caring individuals who are willing to share their special dogs in order to bring unique therapeutic cheer to all people!
Be A Good Dog University does not test or register dog/handler teams. We simply lay the foundations for taking therapy dog tests and direct dog/handler teams toward registration and achievement.
The course involves preparing for the 10 test items of the C.G.C. program, slightly modified for the acclimation and desensitizing required to pass the therapy dog examination.
Be A Good Dog University is certified by the AKC to administer the Canine Good Citizen's Test. Passing the test is crucial to further advancement in therapy dog training.
Each test item is broken down into easy step by step form, with added therapy dog requirements. Specific guidelines and regulations are taught and inforced, as well as responsibilities, protocol and general information.
Rewarding to residents, patients, dog owners and dogs, therapy dogs can be the highlight of someone's day!
