Hi, I am Trina Grubaugh. I have been working with dogs and their people in the lake area for several years now, meeting people from all walks of life and collecting a number of new friends along the way.
I always knew I had a special relationship with dogs, as a child I collected neighborhood dogs as I rode my bike around town, spending my day with as many as 15 all at once. I began my journey as just a kennel attendent to a local vet in Kansas City. That is where I learned how to accomplish basic obedience commands using positive reinforcement and sparking my interest in the language in which they speak. In the years that followed, I researched canine psychology and behavior through a variety of diferent and reliable resources. I knew obedience worked, I just wanted to know "why" and "how" it worked.
I began applying my knowledge of psychology with my experience with obedience to my own dogs and I discovered the secret "Dr. Doolittle" language, atleast with dogs, anyway! I began to see positive changes in my dogs, those who I've had for a long time, and those who were new to our family. When word got around how well my dogs were trained and behaved, friends started telling friends, and next I know, I gathered a small group for a basic obedience class lasting only 5 weeks. Though we concentrated on the basic commands, I would discuss the principles of psychology as a tool to aid in creating the best possible results.
Thus, a new obedience course was born. People were drawn to the simple solutions to their problems, and enjoyed the fun activities involved in creating mentally happier dogs!
Always learning, always modifying the program to fit everyone's needs and address everyone's concerns, I adjusted the course according to each and every student.
Gwen joined class with her infant Australian Shepherd, Wyatt, in 2004. She saw so much potential in her dog and wanted to take him to the highest level of training. As class progressed, Wyatt and Gwen both excelled and it was obvious she had an indepth understanding of all Wyatt needed to achieve her goals.
In 2005, Gwen and I joined forces and began reconstruction on a new and improved basic obedience class. We wanted to cover everything "dog", from psychology and training, to grooming and nutrition. Together, we created a much more indepth curricullum that takes the owners above and beyond the common obedience course.
As we were assembling the program, we realized that there is so much more to offer for those dog owners who want to reach their dogs highest potential. So we added an Introductory Agility course and a Canine Good Citizen course and test. We want to cover it all!
Through the support of the community and local shelter and rescue organizations, we have achieved more than we imagined!
Fetch N Fun Senior Dog Rescue was made possible through the achievements of the Be A Good Dog University programs. We are able to save the lives of older dogs while creating a strong bond between dogs and their owners.
We are always expanding, always improving and always motivated by our love and respect for the dogs! We thank everyone who has been a part of reaching our goals, students and affiliates, it would have been imposible without you!
