Be A Good Dog University offers an 8 week Basic Obedience course. This course helps lay the foundations for the human-animal bond, as well as for later AKC CGC Training, Agility Training, Trick Training, Therapy Dog Training and Track and Rescue.

Our 8 Week Program is designed to cover all areas of responsible dog ownership as well as teaching and advancing on the basic obedience commands and cues. When you have completed this unique 8 week program, you are an educated dog handler who not only controls your own dog, but is confident enough to teach others what you have learned!

Great dogs don't happen by accident! When you train a dog, you establish a powerful bond that helps cement the relationship. Training takes a commitment of time and energy, but it's easier and more fun than you might think! Learning to communicate with your dog can be a joyful and awe-inspiring experience of mutual empowerment. It doesn't have to feel like hard work, especially with positive reinforcement methods along with fun games to help you to achieve your goals.

Each class is introduced with a theme. We cover more than just the basics such as handling exercises and reading body language. We also integrate as many as 22 commands throughout the course and walk you through guidelines of socially accepted behaviors to expect and avoid.

Overview of the 8 week course:

Class #1- Pack Behavior. We bring to light the qualities of pack animals and how they view their world. To understand a dog, you must first think like a dog.

Class #2- Socialization & Hygiene. Discover how interaction with both other animals and people shape the world around them. Also learn how to properly prepare your dog for vet visits as well as how to massage your dog while inspecting his hygiene.

Class #3- Common Problems. Learn how to conquer and avoid unruly behavior using the language your dog understands. Causes and Solutions are the main topics.

Class #4- The Leash. Find the secrets behind positive results with the leash and the importance of it as a tool, not torture. We also hold a discussion on Health & Nutrition options!

Class #5- Non-Verbal Communication. This is where we teach you how dogs communicate with us and each other. In detail, we describe what body language your dog uses to communicate as well as show you how to communicate back!

Class #6- Play! This class is dedicated to instructing you about the basics of toys, games, activities, and trick training for your dog. We also introduce the Tube for confidence building!

Class #7- Distractions. Challenge your dog to practice his routine with an array of distractions going on around him! We've collected a variety of distracting noises and activities to have your dog work through. We will also discuss what to expect as your dog enters into his Senior years. Those who qualify for AKC STAR Puppy Program at this point in the program, are given the oppertunity to take the Test!

Class #8- Graduation & Field Day! We've assembled fun contests and games that enhance what you've learned. Win prizes and have fun! All graduates receive a color, in-depth class manual, graduation gift bag, a CD of class pictures, a personalized Diploma and enrollment in our Scholarship Program!

Those who qualify to pass the AKC STAR Puppy Test will receive extra benefits from the American Kennel Club.

We take our time to evaluate you and your dogs progress and apply different methods as needed. No two dogs learn the same way and it is our job to adjust the appropriate curriculum that best fits your dog. We are confident in our ability to help you reach all your goals!
